President’s Message NEW VISITORS
-- Rick Voss

Sunday, July 9th we were favored with over 3000 visitors at church. Unfortunately they were of the six legged and winged variety. A swarm of bees made their home in our small magnolia tree. I called a beekeeper from a list given to me by the Santa Clara Beekeepers Association and Wayne came and got the swarm on Monday evening promising them a good home.

It got me to thinking, why isn’t it that easy to get the two legged human visitors to come to our church? I think we have had only two visitors in the last four months. That is sad! We are great people! What is wrong with our invitational skills?

Let me up be up front, I have not invited anyone to visit for a very long time. My usual excuse is most all my friends are at church, most of my neighbors attend church, and I work at a church. OK God, I don’t know anyone to invite! So I can’t invite anyone. Well that is not the whole truth. There is a younger couple the live across the street and I have been thinking of a way to approach them and ask them to come to New Creation. I talk to the wife, who I will call M, frequently. I have learned that she is an ex-catholic, opera singer, a teacher, loves cats, likes to garden, and at this time is not planning to have children. We are neighborhood friends and enjoy talking to each other, but I still have not asked her to visit. I needed the perfect way to ask.

I was walking out of my garage a few weeks ago and M was gardening in the front. I shouted hi and the Holy Spirit hit me with an idea. I walked across the streets and asked M is she would like to sing at our church sometime. She looked at me and said sure. Music and Worship is now working out the details and has assured me that they would soon have her come and sing for us. NOW WASN’T THAT EASY!

Do you know any friends or neighbors that have a talent of a craft that they would like to come and share with us? It sure is an easy door opener. I challenge all of us in the next three months to invite one person and have them attend New Creation. Won’t it be interesting and exciting to see and hear all the new and different talent that will come from our invitations?
